Gerry Smith has been a reporter for two decades at major news organizations, including Bloomberg News, HuffPost and the Chicago Tribune. Most recently, he has covered science and health, writing feature stories about cutting-edge treatments and the patients who could benefit from them.
He previously covered the media beat and wrote about compelling figures like Pat McAfee and the business challenges facing companies like ESPN, HBO and the New York Times.
He was part of a team of reporters who were 2016 Loeb Award finalists in breaking news for coverage of how the Comcast–Time Warner Cable merger fell apart. His multi-part series on the underground market for stolen iPhones received an honorable mention from the Barlett & Steele Awards for Investigative Business Journalism.
He holds a master's degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. He lives in New York.
